Expert talk on Goods & Service Tax

An expert talk on “Goods and Services Tax” was organised by the Faculty of Business Administration (FOBA), GLS University, on 9 December 2025 from 11:30 AM to 12:30 PM. The session was delivered by CA Rubal Bhandari, an eminent Chartered Accountant and GST expert. The objective of the talk was to bridge the gap between theoretical learning and the practical application of GST. He explained GST as a comprehensive, multi-stage, destination-based indirect tax on the supply of goods and services in India. The speaker highlighted how GST replaced multiple central and state indirect taxes, creating a unified national tax structure, and emphasized its core objective of “One Nation, One Tax.”

Students learned how personal branding could be a powerful tool to establish a unique identity and credibility. The session motivated participants to explore non-traditional careers and provided actionable tips for skill development and audience connection. RJ Megha’s insights and practical advice left a lasting impact, making the session a valuable experience for aspiring professionals.

The session was organised for Sem IV Regular Marketing Specialization students Dr. Krunal Joshi began the session with discussion on the Components of Digital Marketing which are used by various companies. He then went on with the detailed explanation of the various components of Digital Marketing and discussions with students about the use and implications of these Digital components. Dr. Krunal Joshi concluded the session by showing various components used by various companies and motivated them to go in-depth on Digital marketing as he believes that it is the future of Marketing.

The session aimed to provide students with an overview of public policy and its significance in contemporary society. Personal Wealth Management

A guest session by Dr. Hiral Parikh was scheduled on January 23, 2024 under Samvad Guest Lecture Series for students of Sem. IV Hons. The session was on ‘Personal Wealth Management’. Dr. Hiral began the session with the discussion on how investing allows you to potentially grow your wealth over time. It offers the opportunity for returns that can outpace inflation, helping in any future needs. She then went on with the risks associated with various types of investment and discussed the risky and risk free investment options.

Stress Management

The Faculty of Business Administration, being mindful of the mental health of its students, collaborated with K D Hospital, Ahmedabad, and held a session for its First Year students (Dual Specialization and Regular) on Stress Management. Dr Meghavi Shah, a psychologist with K D Hospital, conducted the sessions over two days – August 22, 2024, and Aug 23, 2024. With 16 years of experience in clinical psychology, Dr Meghavi has worked with hospitals, corporates and the Government in the field of counseling and mental health. She began by cautioning the students about paying attention to the physical and behavioural outcomes of stress. Through small activities, she gave them tips about managing their stress and keeping it within tolerable limit.

Mr. Samrendra Srivastava, the Founder and Chairman of WIZZOKRAFT conducted a guest session on Advertising Management on 20th September 2024 . In this interactive session he has discussed the Campaign of Maggie and discussed how Maggie has come out of its downfall a few years ago due to the issue of lead in its products. He has also discussed some fundamental aspects of Ad Campaign. He had also discussed a campaign run by him to promote Zydus Cadila Hospital.

Recruitment and T & D

Ms Alpna Sharma, a certified mind coach and HR Consultant began her session by tracing the evolution of HRM. She then moved on to the 3 P’s of recruitment in which she covered the role played by recruiters in enhancing the image of the organization. She also explained to the students how jobs are designed, and how employers go about recruitment and selection. Ms Sharma stressed upon ‘right attitude’ and ‘potential’ being the key criteria that employers look for. She then moved on to training; covering reasons for training and methods of training. In this regard, her advice to the students was to be greedy for learning and gain knowledge from all possible sources. It was an informative and useful session.

On the 16th of July, 2024, an insightful and interactive session on entrepreneurship was held at the Container, GLS University campus. The session, led by Michael Goldberg, Executive Director, Veale Institute for Entrepreneurship , Associate Vice President, Veale Institute for Entrepreneurship and Associate Professor, Department of Design & Innovation, Weatherhead School of Management

The session was attended by over 60 students from the Faculty of Business Administration, specifically those in Semesters 3 and 5 specializing in entrepreneurship.

How to be resilient?

Faculty of Business Administration (FOBA), GLS University, organized an insightful guest session on 14th September 2024 for second and third-year BBA students on the topic : How to be resilient? . The session was conducted by Ms. Nairuti Trivedi, a well-known counselor from Ahmedabad University, who brought her expertise to engage students in meaningful activities designed to stimulate psychological awareness while providing an enjoyable experience.

 

The session aimed to address the often-overlooked psychological needs of students by integrating fun and interactive elements. Miss Trivedi structured the session around activities that helped students recognize and manage stress, anxiety, and mental health challenges. These activities were highly participatory, encouraging students to reflect on their emotional well-being and the importance of mental health in academic and personal life.

Mr. Vatsal Shah, a renowned business coach, delivered an insightful session on 13th September, 2024 titled "Be a market-ready marketer" to SY and TY BBA students at Samvaad. During the session, he not only covered fundamental marketing concepts but also encouraged students to adopt a fresh and innovative approach to succeed in the competitive marketing landscape. By emphasizing the importance of thinking differently and exploring unconventional strategies, Vatsal prepared students to stand out in their marketing endeavors. The session also touched upon various topics, including the tea-bag theory, inbound and outbound sales, upselling and cross-selling techniques, and personality branding, providing students with a comprehensive understanding of the marketing field. On February 13, 2024, Dr. Atman Shah delivered a guest lecture to the FYBBA (Honors) students at the Faculty of Business Administration, GLS University, focusing on monetary policy. Dr. Shah, Assistant Professor of Economics at St.Xaviers College, Ahmedabad, likely provided a comprehensive overview of monetary policy, its significance in economic management, and its impact on various sectors. During the lecture, Dr. Shah might have discussed key concepts such as interest rates, inflation targeting, money supply regulation, and central bank functions. Additionally, he might have delved into the role of monetary policy in stabilizing the economy, controlling inflation, and fostering economic growth.

Hitesh Ramchandani, Manager: 360 one WAM conducted an insightful guest session on banking services for the SY BBA students on 13th August 2024. The session focused on the fundamentals of banking, including the various types of services offered by banks, the role of financial institutions in the economy, and the importance of financial literacy for young professionals. Ramchandani, with his extensive experience in the banking sector, shared practical insights and real-world examples, making the concepts more relatable and easier to understand for the students. The session was interactive, with students engaging in discussions and asking questions, which Ramchandani answered with clarity, leaving the attendees with a deeper understanding of the banking industry.

The guest session by Mr Ram Gor of Analytix Business Solutions (India) Pvt. Ltd. was on Human Resource Information Systems (HRIS).It was conducted on August 13,2024 Drawing from his industry experience, the speaker covered the meaning of HRIS, its importance in making data-backed decisions, the process of creating HRIS, its usefulness, its limitations, and the relationship between HRIS and HRMS. The session ended with a Q&A, with student attendees raising pertinent questions.

On 12th August 2024, Mr. Ravi Sharma conducted an enlightening session on "Credit Monitoring" for the second-year BBA regular students. The session aimed to enhance the students' understanding of the importance of credit scores and the role of credit monitoring in managing personal finances. Mr. Sharma discussed various aspects, including the factors that influence credit scores, best practices for maintaining a good credit history, and the tools available for monitoring credit. The session was highly interactive, with students engaging in a Q&A segment, where they received practical advice on managing their credit effectively. Overall, the session was well-received and provided valuable insights into the significance of credit monitoring in today’s financial landscape.

Grooming Skills for Effective Presentation

Faculty’s comment:

The resource person used the inductive approach towards teaching on 7 Feb 2023. He began with general statements and observations through videos and linked them systematically to the traits of an effective presenter : Carefulness/ Mindfulness of a presenter, Clarity in presenting,being compassionate and sensitive towards the audience, Being confident so as  to impress, adopting neutrality and controlling judgemental behavior and finally using the art of painting : to be able to make the audience visualise a scenario through stories and vividness in narration.

He concluded by stressing on the need of being an effective presenter for todays generation, wherein these qualities mentioned above are needed to be an effective presenter and to be a good human being in the ruthless marketplace.

As a part of the mission of equipping our students for the corporate world the institute not only

focuses on academics, but also tries to bridge the gap between academics and the industry.

It is in this endeavor, Samvad - A Talk Series is organized where guest speakers

Industry and academics are invited to interact with our students on a variety of topics, so that our budding managers and entrepreneurs learn the true lessons of life. This year’s theme of Samvad was “Aspire, Perspire, Inspire”.

The fourth session of Samvad was taken by Mr. Nikhil Patel, who is at a chief position with BJP IT Cell, Gujarat branch. He is frequently invited to speak at reputed forums/panels/roundtables. 

At Samvad, he spoke on how the youth can be digitally aware about the nuisances prevalent in the digital world. He talked about how an individual can develop their digital skills by first understanding the difference between digital media, artificial intelligence and cyber crime. He encouraged the students to not feel embarrassed or ashamed in case they become the victims of any kind of cyber crime. For all of these, he suggested that the students will have to work on the privacy settings and enable two way authentication.

The session ended with question answers.

The first session of Samvad was taken by Dr. Falguni Vasavada, a professor of Marketing and Co-Chair, MDP at MICA. She is a TEDx speaker & is frequently invited to speak at reputed forums/panels/roundtables. She Speaks on Advertising, Branding, Marketing, Social Media, Personal Branding, Gender Equality, Body Positivity, Women Empowerment, Happiness as a

Lifestyle and Motivation.

At Samvad, she spoke on how the youth can make themselves unique. She talked about how an individual can develop their personality by first understanding the difference between personality, individuality and identity. She encouraged the students to find the domain area of expertise, develop hobbies, and focus on career growth. For all of these, she suggested that the students will have to work on their insecurities and evolve everyday. She emphasized that in order to have a strong professional identity, one must evolve in their personal life and move beyond all kinds of stereotypes.

The second session of Samvad was taken by Mr. Sanjay Chakraborty, a seasoned Marketing Communication professional with around 3 decades of hands-on experience in handling various marketing and brand portfolios, across categories. His expertise & keen interest lies in understanding the Consumer Behaviour & insights and providing effective strategies & solutions. He founded and leads as the Chief Marketing Communication Advisor, ESSKSEE Consultancy which is an intellectual advisory & consultancy firm focused on the Strategic Marketing Communication area.

At Samvad, he spoke on how the youth can make themselves unique. He started the session by discussing the concept of brand, and pointed out that at this stage in the lives of students it is important that they realize that they need to be a brand in themselves. For this, he mentioned mainly three aspects that make the brand YOU - Communication, passion and attitude. He emphasized that the youth needs to be a corporate “Yoddha” and need to have  the same spirit for their career as soldiers have for the country.

The third session of Samvad was taken by Dr. Indira Nityanandan, a retired professor of English Literature and Communication. She is frequently invited to speak at reputed forums/panels/roundtables. She Speaks on Gender Equality, Women Empowerment, Soft Skills and Communication Skills.

At Samvad, she spoke on how the youth can communicate effectively. She talked about how an individual can develop their personality by first understanding the effective use of language and non-cerbal communication. She encouraged the students to find the domain area of expertise, develop hobbies, and focus on career growth. She emphasized that in order to have a strong communication skills one must practice and work hard on their soft skills.

Entrepreneurship Essentials

As part of Guest Lecture Series for the subject of Entrepreneurship Essentials, Ms. Payal Pathak and Mr. Soham Payal Pathak Founder of Simply Salad -Ahmedabad were invited to interact with students of First Year Bachelor of Business Administration at GLS University’s Faculty of Business Administration with 230 strength. 

To introduce the venture Simply Salad, it is an Ahmedabad Startup supported and funded by Shark Tank India in 27 January 2023.Ms. Payal started with her journey of doing various corporate jobs and then being a single mother and doing a startup while she was on her weight loss journey.

Various discussions on planning of the business model, fundings and channel intermediaries were discussed in detail to give an idea about the startup. The session was very interactive which was followed by Question Answer by the students.

Indian Financial System

This guest lecture was organized as an online mode on 27th February 2023 by the Management department for FY students. The session was conducted on the MS Meet platform from 2:40 Pm to 4:00 Pm. The session was informative as Prof. Hanok T Samuel spoke about the importance of channelizing money into productive channels and explained how the movement of money helps in developing the economy through simple illustrations.

Prof. Hanok also dealt with the components of the financial system and how these components help in movement of funds from surplus saving units to deficit saving units.

Career Counselling Session- NHRD Ahmedabad Chapter

Faculty of Business Administration has been organising Career Counselling Sessions so that students get an insight of what is required by the market. To succeed in the corporate world, the student must have the right blend of knowledge, attitude, etiquette, discipline, and hard work. A  Career Counselling  session on the topic 6 Thinking Hats of Management  was conducted by Ms. Subitha Pallithara , Total Rewards Consultant,  Arvind Mills on 23rd September 2023. The session was organised in collaboration with the NHRD Network, Ahmedabad Chapter. The session was held in Room No. 205, HA Building from 10.45 am onwards.

Samvad-Dr. Nigam Dave

The session of Samvad was taken by Dr. Nigam Dave, Director of School of Liberal Studies, PDEU, Gandhinagar. He is looking after various academic and administrative profiles in PDEU. He has visited several universities internationally and has been awarded the honorary rank of Colonel by NCC, India. He is currently also the Dean of the Office of International Relations, PDEU. He gave a talk on ‘Body Language and Career Prospects’ to the students of FY and SY Hons. 

He talked about the body language of various leaders of the world and discussed how it determined the perception of people who are watching them. He showed various instances wherein one’s body language can be interpreted in positive and negative ways. There were relatable examples in his presentation, from actors, to cricketers, to memes that got viral solely due to the body language and facial expressions. Towards the end, he showed students how one has to conduct oneself in interviews and networking events, in addition to telling them how to present and receive business cards.

The students enjoyed the session thoroughly.

Samvad- Dr.Sanjay Chakraborty

Mr Sanjay Chakraborty began with explaining what ‘consumer insight’ is. He then moved on to the topic of the session ‘Advertising Across Cultures’. With examples of well-known brands, he showed how understanding of culture, language and mindset are all crucial when it comes to advertising across cultures. He gave examples of global disasters where brands did not pay attention to cultural nuances. He also discussed the strategy of ‘glocalization’. He concluded his session with what advertisers need to do before launching a inter-cultural advertising campaign. The session ended with the Q & A round.

Samvad- Ms. Bhavna Narang

A talk in “Samvad” Guest Session series on “Influencer Marketing” as part of core course Marketing Management II was conducted for SY (Regular BBA) students by Ms. Bhavana Narang on Saturday, 22nd July 2023. It was very interesting and interactive sessions which directly connects Marketing minds. The speaker talked about campaign management, choosing an influencer, key metrics to track the quality of real vs fake influencer, importance of creative content, earning through this profession, contacting an influencer with various real and personal experiences of various influencers like Curly Tales Kamiya Jani, Heena Somani, Mr. Food Lover, etc. She also discussed Samsung product launch using influencer marketing, collaborations and paid promotions. All in all, it was a very interactive session that ended with Q&A round.

Samvad- CA Rinkesh Shah

A guest session by CA Rinkesh Shah was scheduled on July 22, 2023 under Samvad Guest Lecture Series. The session was on Understanding and Interpreting Financial Statements. 

CA Rinkesh Shah began the session with discussion on the contents of Financial Statements and the role of IFRS in the preparation and presentation of Financial Statements. He then went on with the detailed explanation of the various components of financial statements especially, various concepts of profit. He then showed the BSE website and explained how the information given on the website can be analysed to take investment decisions. He quoted the example of Reliance for explaining the movement of stock prices and the reasons for the movement in the stock prices. 

CA Rinkesh Shah concluded the session by motivating the students to at least read one or two financial newspapers every day.

Third year (Banking and Financial Services Specialization) students of Faculty of Business Administration participated in a guest lecture cum workshop on ‘Changing Role of Banking Industry’ conducted by Mr. Mr. Farookh Bharucha on 21st  July, 2023 (Friday).

Mr. Farookh Bharucha began by giving an overview of the Banking Industry. He explained about career opportunities with banks. He then went on to talk about various challenges in the banking industry. He also discussed various Macro environmental factors that affect banks' performance. He also talked about retail operations control implemented by banks and banking and financial services trends.   

Mr. Farookh Bharucha concluded the session by giving insights into the topic of technology as a driver for banking and financial services industry.

As part of Samvad Guest Lecture Series for the subject of Advanced Marketing. Mr. Samrendra Srivastav is CEO of Wizzokraft Solution (a management consulting firm), Ahmedabad was invited to interact with students of Second Year Bachelor of Business Administration at GLS University’s Faculty of Business Administration. 

Mr. Srivastav  started his session with the concept of Market Segmentation.. He then emphasized the advantages of segmentation. Different segmentation bases have been discussed . Segmentation by Nirma, HUL and P&G has been discussed. The session was very interactive which was followed by Question Answer by the students.

Samvad- Mr. Aashish Shah

As part of Samvad Guest Lecture Series for the subject of Communication. Mr. Aashish Shah, an entrepreneur in Ahmedabad was invited to interact with students of Second & Third Year Bachelor of Business Administration at GLS.

Mr. Shah started his session with the question on how the students envision their career.  He then emphasized on the importance of taking a work experience before they enrol for MBA. Different angles of employability communication i.e. the perspectives of employee and employers were discussed at length. The students were also given activities where they could understand different layers of leadership.

In this interactive session, students were asked to be self-driven. Mr. Shah emphasized that if the team members are self driven, the team can handle any challenges.

The session was very interactive which was followed by Question Answer by the students.

It was really an honor to have Mr. Samir shah on the campus to address the students of GLS BBA. The session was titled as International Business & Logistics: Career & More…During the session Mr. Shah spoke on the changing aspects of logistics industry and its potential in future. He showed the figures related to supply chain and logistics then and now and its tremendous growth. He explained various types of logistics. He addressed the career prospects related to the International Business and Supply chain and addressed the queries of the students.

Balanced Scorecard

Dr. Hiral Parikh has more than 20 years experience in teaching which was reflected in her session. Lecture was about Balanced Scorecard which is a strategic performance management system. Flow of the lecture went very well. Content covered all necessary details and information. Presentation was very lucid and crisp and students could connect and understand. The session ended with questions from students which were answered by Dr. Hiral and doubts of students were cleared.

Global Reporting Standard

This guest lecture was organized on 14th February 2023 by the Economics department for FY students offline at the campus. It started around 10:30 am and the session got completed around 1:00 pm. The session was really informative as the guest talked about how the top 1000 listed companies do report about their sustainability reports. This gave an overview of the companies, their working, their CSR activities, and the stakeholders and their importance in the working of the company. 

Overall it was a very engaging session as students also went through a few case studies, and read the BRSR reports of companies like Tata Power, Reliance, Infosys, etc.

Creating the First Impression on Hiring Managers

Faculty’s comment:

Dr Urjit Kavi brought in his 16-plus years of experience of interviewing and appointing thousands of candidates and delivered an informative session that took the participants through four stages of creating a strong first impression on hiring managers on 12 Feb 2023. He broadly covered resume writing, interview preparation, discussions during interviews and closing the interview. He emphasized the importance of constant up-gradation of knowledge, skills and competencies in order to have a competitive edge in the job market. 

The session ended with questions from students.

Ms Jasleen Sardar, working as a Marketing Manager and Partner with a Digital Fashion streetwear brand - Balloonfight customs, conducted the live talk on “Emerging Trends in Digital Marketing” on the online platform WebEx. The session touched upon the various marketing strategies and competition scenarios. The session threw light on the concepts related to Digital Marketing trends, Global scenarios in the world of Augmented and Virtual Reality. The session was very interactive and informative. The examples and videos are shown, by a few brands including Ikea, Gucci, Hubspot, among others were very thought-provoking. Overall the session concluded by linking culture, stories and the world of branding.

Grievances and Grievance Redressal.

Mr Saahil Vyas, an alumnus of FBA - NRBBA, is an HRBP with Baxter (India) Commercial. He conducted a session on Grievances and Grievance Redressal.

Mr Saahil Vyas first talked about the features, causes and effects of grievance. He then talked about designing ‘grievance redressal mechanism’ and the ‘essentials of formal grievance procedure’ with emphasis of time-bound resolution of grievances and feedback to the aggrieved about the status of their grievances. Role of POSH Committees and Ethics and Compliance Departments, particularly at Baxter (India) were covered. 

The session ended with a Q & A round using the chat box option of WebEx. Worksheet drawn on this session was mailed to the students.

A session on Waste Management

A session on waste management was organized on 24th August 2022 for the Students of SEM 3 BBA in the subject of Production Management. Students were given an insight about healing the environment, they were made aware of green surroundings and their importance. In the session, Dr. Sandya who is a technocrat and environmentalist and associated with tree walks involved the students in contemplating seeing a greener and healthy city and our earth.

Dr. Sandya shared various tips about waste management, managing household waste, reducing plastic waste and forming compost, bio- enzymes and so on. The students got an idea of how to reduce carbon footprints and reduce waste, reuse and recycle the waste. At the end of the session, she organized a small quiz and distributed bio enzymes to the students who answered correctly After the session, many students promised to segregate the waste and also decided not to use plastic.

Digital Marketing and Communication

Mr Sandip Trivedi, CEO & Founder of Digital Sandip Academy delivered a lively session on Digital Marketing & Communication for the First Year Students of Faculty of Business Administration. 

The session focused on how communication is key to marketing products and services using digital sources. The session started with the differentiation between digital marketing and traditional marketing and how the communication strategies differ in both. The discuss then led to how digital marketing and media uses social media to communicate with the leads to convert them into prospects. 

Mr. Sandip concluded the session by giving insights into Google Ads, Facebook Ads and other analytics that can be used to identify correct targets and then interact with them using targeted ads using the language that they understand.

One of the experts was Dcp Amit Vasava, who is currently serving as DCP, Cyber Crime, Ahmedabad. Dcp Amit Vasava sir is IPS from the 2016 batch. He is also heading 24 x 7 helpline for cybercrime, called “Cyber Aswasth”. He guided students regarding various types of cyber frauds happening in the current environment. He also informed students regarding “Cyber Aswasth”, a 24 x 7 helpline for cybercrime and its benefits to citizens of India. The session was also accompanied by Mr Nikhil Patel, Convener (It Head), BJP Gujarat. He addressed students on the impact of social media on society and youth. He also advised students for utilizing Social Media in a progressive manner. The session was conducted online using the cisco Webex online platform.

Self Confidence & Self Esteem

The irony of soft skills is that they are often the hardest to master. Leadership, communication, collaboration, creativity, and adaptability are very vital and hence a Lecture on Self Confidence & Self Esteem was organized for Sem 1 students in the auditorium on 28th September 2021. The same session was organized for online students also using Webex platform on 1st October. Mrs Geetarsh Kaur helped the students in knowing more of who they already are. She emphasized that one does not mature with time but mature through lessons. She told students that you learn by your mistakes. She stressed on the need to look within yourself. She also made students understand the importance of kindness over arrogance and choose to forgive over holding grudges. Students actually enjoyed interacting with madam and gained the essential life skills.

The session was basically arranged for students to create awareness regarding various types of Cyber Frauds prevailing in the current era. Cyber frauds are mounting at a rapid race in various areas nowadays. One of the measures to curb these frauds is to create awareness regarding such frauds and the same was achieved by this session. The faculty not only mentioned recent cyber frauds but also explained various techniques to escape from such cyber frauds.

Federation of Indian Export Organization gave a curated session on Import and Export and future scope of Import-Export in International Business. The government officials of DGFT Ms Maithreyi Naidu and Mr. Jayprakash Goel given insights about the industry on 3rd Feb 2020. 

The awareness program was extremely helpful in acknowledging the fact of international business and how it works along with the fact that they were welcoming students to initiate some projects or research which help the government in amending policies as future prospects. Other than import export, they also focused on the scope of International Business.

Dr Julia Richardson delivered a talk on the impact of social media on one’s career. The session was organised on 26th August 2019 by Dr Tejal Jani. She began her talk by explaining the difference between ‘to be present on social media officially’ and ‘to be present on social media personally’. She elaborated that now the recruiters appraise the prospective candidates by checking their social media status. She underscored the fact that a prospective candidate loses a job opportunity when his social media status is contrary to what is required of him professionally. She advised students to be cautious while posting on social media.

Strategic Management

Strategic management, one of the core courses for Semester 6 students were conducted guest sessions by Mr. Nimay Kalyani from 2nd December 2019. The lectures were interesting with lots of practical and mock applications of strategies. Each session was designed in such a manner, that students could relate the theory and analyze the practical application of each theory in their chosen company. The entire class was interactive, so the groups also learnt from findings of other groups. The sessions included concepts of strategy, internal and external analysis, Ansoff’s product/ market strategies, Miles and Snow’s adaptive strategies, Porter’s competitive strategies, International strategies, Generic strategies, Strategic implementation, Leadership and Strategic Evaluation.
