The Faculty of Computer Applications & IT at GLS University offers a 1-year full time Post Graduate Diploma in Computer Science and Applications (PGDCA) Programme.

Graduates of Arts, Science, Management, Commerce or other streams who wish to make a long-term career in Information Technology can choose this course. This course provides a strong foundation and requisite for pursuing masters in Information Technology. It is also helpful to students who want to pursue higher studies from foreign Universities.

The Programme prepares the students to seek compatible job opportunities in the industry as well as make them ready to pursue master’s programme in IT. The approach is to prepare students from diverse fields in developing skills related to programming and understanding the concepts related to Computers and its applications. The programme is designed to develop the coding and analytical ability of the students.

For Whom?

  • For students who want to pursue higher studies in foreign countries and require 4 years study (3 yrs Bachelors + 1 yr PGDCA)
  • Graduates of Arts, Science, Commerce, Management or any other equivalent discipline from a recognized University who wish to make a long term career in Information Technology.
  • Graduates planning to pursue masters programme in Information Technology can become eligible for the entry to such programme after completion of PGDCA.
  • Candidates aspiring to carve out a promising career through exclusive blend of Technical Expertise and Domain Knowledge.

Programme Objectives

During one year of study, the programme aims at inculcating essential skills as demanded by the industry through an interactive learning process. This includes audio/video presentations, team building skills and personality development programmes.

The broad objectives of the programme are:

  • To train students in basic computer technology concepts and information technology applications.
  • To enhance their career opportunities in the software development and IT maintenance sector.
  • To expose the students to Open Source Technologies so that they become familiar with it and can seek appropriate opportunity in trade and industry.
  • To give hands on experience to students while developing real life IT application as part of the study.
  • To augment the knowledge base of the students, through various activities which will be complementary to the theoretical studies.

Eligibility Norms for Admission to PGDCA

The applicant must have passed Graduation examination in any discipline from a University recognized by UGC.

Admission

  • Candidate who have appeared in the final year examination can also apply.
  • Admission will be given based on score in Graduation and Personal Interview.
  • Admission to reserved category applicants will be as per the guidelines of Government of Gujarat.
  • Applicants from Universities other than Gujarat University will have to obtain and produce Provisional Eligibility Certificates from GLS University.

  • Passing percentage in Internal and External evaluation is 40 each. The components of the internal evaluation will be communicated by the institution at the beginning of the semester.
  • External evaluation will consist of University Examination to be conducted by GLS University.

Infrastructure

The Faculty of Computer Applications and Information Technology have modern classrooms with quality audio-visual equipment and computer labs with latest software and equipment.

GLS campus has many computer laboratories that hosts more than 250 high-end workstations with Ubuntu 18.04 LTS client machines, Ubuntu 18.04 & RedHat LINUX servers on fiber-optic backbone with all the necessary software packages and host of peripherals. Two MAC labs with 90 machines are also available in campus for the students to perform practicals on iOS.

Separate Experimental Laboratory is also available to the students for hands-on unscheduled experiments. A dedicated IoT lab to perform experiments on Arduino, Rasberry Pi and WSN. Besides these, students also have access to Red Hat Linux and Ubuntu operating system with development environment for experimental purpose.

Internet facility is available to all students through multiple dedicated high speed connections each of up-to 100 Mbps. The University also provides a high end WiFi connection to the students.

The students have access to excellent library stocked with more than 9000+ books on computer science, more than 40 International and National journals, and more than 5000+ electronic resources (EBSCO, Science Direct, DOAJ to name a few).

Few of the research areas that the faculty work on is Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Data Analytics, Natural Language Processing and Internet of Things.

    To get the insight of the recent market trends in IT industry, seminars and workshops on latest and upcoming technologies are arranged throughout the year.
  • ITALKS:
    ITalks are organized to stimulate with Interactive Technology Oriented Talks on advanced and upcoming technologies.
  • INDUSTRIAL TOURS:
    Industrial tour enables student progression by understanding and gaining vision about how Information Technology is used in various sectors like Government, Marketing, Purchasing, Manufacturing, etc.
  • CYBER SHADEZ:
    Cyber Shadez, a National Level Technical Festival, gives platform to students to showcase their technical skills. Students participate in events like IT Quiz, Paper Presentation, Relay Programming, Mobile Gaming, etc.
  • YOUTH FESTIVAL:
    Students are encouraged to participate and excel in different fields like dance, music, acting, public speaking, etc to highlight their overall personality.
  • INSTITUTIONAL SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY:
    To promote social learning amongst the students and acquainting students to social responsibility and sustainability activities are carried throughout the year.
  • SPORTS TOURNAMENT
    With the aim of all round development of the students, various sports activities are held throughout the year. Students are trained and guided for blend of events like cricket, basketball, football, badminton, shotput, discus throw and many more.
