Nartnaad –a Folk Dance Club Workshop

GLS FOC organized an interactive expert sessions as a part of 3 days workshop under ‘Nartnaad’ – The Folk Dance Club. The expert sessions were aimed to equip students with essential skills and knowledge in various folk dance techniques, allowing them to excel not only in their academic pursuits but also in their personal and professional lives.

Students were able to improve and enhance their creative talents via live performances through the Nartnaad club at GLS-FOC. The club's goal is to engage members in learning folk dance and its application through performance with rigor and interest. Over the course of this year, the Club successfully arranged Folk Workshop that lasted for 3 days. More than 50 students took part in the workshop. The workshop began with the basics of folk dance i.e. 2 taali, 3 taali, hinch and dodhiyu, and the students excitedly danced to the grooves and rhythms of well-known folk songs. The pupils were provided with theoretical information about the various bar patterns, sets of rhythm, and layers of music that are used in folk dance. In addition to that, there was also an emphasis placed on the actual application of such information to each and every participant. Every participant in this year's workshop were instructed for four other technical styles in addition to the basic garba, with the goal of enhancing their dancing abilities. A variety of dance forms, including Semi-classical, Rajasthani, Dakhla, Bolly-folk etc were taught to the participants, and all of these styles were merged into a single choreography. On the last day of the workshop, the students who had learnt the choreography, performed it in a variety of groups giving a conclusion to the folk - dance workshop.

Following the folk dance sessions, the grooming session was carried on where the participants were taught about dressing in proper folk attire and what kind of facial makeup is required during stage performances was also taught. Various national and international fame folk choreographers shared their success story and practically demonstrated how to gear up for folk performances on the stage and also gave one to one tip to all the aspiring artists and laid emphasis on implementing confidence on stage.

The students were also divided into different groups while teaching different technical styles to enhance thei experience and different songs were taught with different formations to prepare them for the upcoming shows and also for the festival of Navratri.

At the end of the workshop several students were selected as core team for Folk Dance for the year 2025-2026. This team would represent GLS University and Faculty of Commerce at various inter-college events at state and national level events. The interactive workshop sessions conducted by various experts Miss Megha Nihlani , Miss Prapti Thakkar who spared their valuable time from their busy schedule and guided our students to perform to their best of the abilities. The workshop was coordinated by Dr. Kruti Shah, Dr. Nidhip Shah and Dr. Shimoni Trivedi.
