A two-day Lippan Art Workshop was successfully organized by Faculty of Commerce- GLS University on 26 and 27 December 2025 in collaboration with Pedelite, with the objective of introducing students to traditional Indian folk art and encouraging creative expression through hands-on learning. The workshop was conducted by Ms. Rashmi Singh, an experienced trainer in Lippan art, who guided participants through the techniques, materials, and cultural significance of this indigenous art form.
The workshop commenced with an introductory session where Ms. Singh explained the origins of Lippan art, traditionally practiced in the Kutch region of Gujarat. She highlighted the use of natural materials such as clay and mirrors, and discussed how this art form reflects rural aesthetics, sustainability, and cultural identity. This theoretical introduction helped students understand the historical and artistic context before moving on to practical work.
Students enthusiastically participated in the workshop and under the trainer’s guidance, they learned the step-by-step process of preparing the base, designing traditional motifs, applying clay work, and fixing mirrors to create intricate patterns. The sessions were highly interactive, allowing students to experiment with designs while receiving individual feedback and support.
The workshop emphasized creativity, patience, and precision, enabling participants to develop both artistic skills and an appreciation for traditional craftsmanship. Students expressed keen interest and satisfaction as they completed their own Lippan art pieces by the end of the workshop. The collaborative effort with Pedelite ensured the availability of quality materials and a well-structured learning experience.
Overall, the Lippan Art Workshop proved to be an enriching and engaging experience. It not only enhanced the artistic abilities of the participants but also fostered awareness about India’s rich cultural heritage. Such workshops play a vital role in preserving traditional art forms while inspiring young learners to explore creative and cultural pursuits. The Workshop was co-ordinated by Dr. Keyur Vohra and Dr. Anjali Trivedi.
