About B. Design

The Bachelor of Design (B.Des) is a four-year undergraduate programme structured as a progressive journey of learning, making, reflection, and engagement. The programme nurtures independent, thoughtful, and socially responsive designers through a distinctive four-stage pedagogical framework: I, YOU, THEY, and US.

Year 1: I (Foundation and Sensitization)

The first year builds a strong foundation in design thinking, visual literacy, material exploration, and craft-based skills. Students develop sensitivity to form, perception, context, and execution, learning to observe, question, and translate ideas into meaningful design outcomes.

Year 2: YOU (Making and Collaboration)

The second year emphasizes learning through collaboration. Students work closely with industry professionals, artisans, and technical experts, gaining hands-on exposure to materials, processes, production systems, and real-world workflows in both local and global contexts.

Year 3: THEY (Society, Users and Context)

Students engage beyond the studio with users, markets, crafts communities, entrepreneurs, and marginalized groups. This phase deepens understanding of socio-economic, cultural, and environmental realities, fostering empathy and responsibility in design practice.

Year 4: US (Professional Practice and Graduation Project)

The final year culminates in an independent Graduation Project, where students integrate research, user engagement, feedback, and iteration to develop professionally viable and socially meaningful design solutions.

Through this structured progression, the B.Des programme equips graduates with hands-on experience, collaborative confidence, and a deep understanding of design’s real-world impact.

The programme prepares students for work in cinema, OTT platforms, documentaries, and digital content creation through hands-on projects and real-world production processes.

B. Design

Product Design

Product Design focuses on creating meaningful, functional, and responsible products that respond to human needs. Students explore design thinking, ergonomics, materials, prototyping, manufacturing processes, and sustainability. The specialisation emphasizes usability, context, and innovation, enabling students to design products and systems that improve everyday life.

B. Design

Apparel Design

Apparel Design approaches fashion as an expression of culture, identity, and functionality. Students gain hands-on experience in textile science, garment construction, draping, pattern making, fashion illustration, and trend analysis. The programme prepares students for the global fashion ecosystem by balancing creativity, craftsmanship, and industry awareness.
